76ers Draft

So its been a few days since the NBA draft was completed and the 76ers made some noise especially with the way they handled their 10th overall pick.  Personally I have gone back and forth on this in that it was good, bad, and ugly all at the same time.  In the end the Sixers are trying to build something and build it right now.  If Lebron is going to go to the west that makes the Sixers and Celtics in a arms race for stock piling talent and the Celtics are currently leading the way.

And with the 10th pick in the 2018 NBA draft the 76ers choose Mikal Bridges…… then minutes later the Sixers traded Mikal Bridges.  Are you shitting me.  The feel good story of the local player staying and playing for the organization his mother works for was awesome.  And then the ugly happened and he was traded away.  Originally you got the jump shooting small forward that could help immediately.  Instead you traded for a 2021 1st round pick and Makelle Fultz 2.0 in Zhaire Smith. What were they thinking?

Personally I wish they could have gotten Kevin Knox, but he went one pick before to those sticking Knicks.  I also thought that getting Troy Brown a 6’7″ Shooting Guard whose size is nearly identical to Bridges size and can play some stretch 3 also.  Another good complement to Ben Simmons (Rookie of the year by the way).

Now with drafting Fultz 2.0 does this mean that Fultz could be part of a trade package in order for the 76ers to get their star player.  Lebron may not be available as each day looks like LA may be the spot for him.  Do they take a shot at Kawhi Leonard as a one year rental and hope he resigns with the team.  That’s a lot to risk.  The Sixers could be working on something that none of us are thinking about, like a big trade to the Raptors for Kyle Lowry or  something smaller like trying to acquire a 26 year old Khris Middleton from the Bucks who averaged 15ppg this past season.  Either way this team is ready to make a big move and is ready to make it now.

It is amazing to have basketball back in Philly.  The classic 80’s battles of the Celtics and Sixers has returned and they are now both in an all out arms race to try and dominate the East.  The Sixers have some of the best young talent in the entire NBA and the window is now wide open.  They need to move quickly and intelligently so that they don’t miss this rare chance.
