POSTGAME: Eagles vs Falcons

Thursday may have been the hottest goddamn game I have ever been to.  The parking lot was full the drinks were cool and the stadium was rocking.  Game one of the 2018 season felt like a playoff game and had you on edge all night.  In the end, the Eagles were able to pull out a win that looked a lot like last years victory over the Falcons with Matty Ice not being able to get Julio Jones the ball on the last play.  So let’s see how we made out on the Pre-Game Write Up.

Pre-Game Offense

The Eagles may struggle a bit in this area because of the lack of production in the preseason and that the receiving corp doesn’t look that strong.  Questions still loom about Peters, Wallace, and is Sproles back to being Sproles.

Post Game

Jason Peters is a monster and looks great.  That dude is a true HOF lineman.  Sporles was used a lot in the early parts of the game and Wallace was invisible.  Jay Ajayi took over the ground game in the second half and change the complexion of the game.  Nelson Agholar and Ertz were targeted a combined 20 times producing 13 catches.  As we thought the receiving corp was pedestrian.

Pre-Game Defense

The Eagles had one of the Top defenses all of last season.  I expect them to be even better this year.  The loss of Jernigan early on is troublesome but if the Eagles have shown anything is that they can adapt to injuries.  Hicks is back, the D-line is secure, the Secondary is even better.  This D will carry the offense over the next few weeks until they get their groove back.

Post Game Defense

The D is going to carry this team for a few weeks and that’s okay with me.  Fletcher Cox is a machine.  Long doesn’t age, and Brandon Graham is steady as he goes.  The Defense took away everything inside the red zone on the Falcons.  Sure Julio looked great between the twenties but when it mattered the Eagles shut them down.  With Nigel Bradham coming back next week I expect the Eagles to tear apart the Bucs.

Pre-Game Extra

The Eagles are playing at home with the Super Bowl Banner Release.  They are 15-3 at home since 2016 and have won their last 3 home openers.  The Stadium is going to be rocking for all 4 quarters.  I think it stays close for until midway through the 2nd quarter.  That’s about the time the Eagles offense begins to get into a flow and they begin moving the ball on long strenuous drives.  The 4th quarter will be interesting because the Falcons will change strategy and really try to attack the Eagles through the air.  The game will end on a late interception and the Eagles will run out the clock.  (If this comes true I am the F#$%ing man)

Post Game Extra

Doug Pederson continues to out coach opponents each week.  The Eagles knew they were in for a dogfight and they handled it great.  Pederson is now 16-3 at home since 2016.  The Crowd brought the noise on every down especially n third and fourth downs.  The interception I wanted came a little early in the 4th but was made in the red zone to kill a good drive by the Falcons.  The Eagles last drive was 8 plays and more than 50 yards that ended with them going up 18-12.  The Defense once again took the field and allowed the Falcons to eat the clock up themselves and eventually ended the game with a great play by Darby pushing Julio out of the end zone to end the game.

Actual Score 18-12.  Close.

The most important thing is that they got the W.  Now with ten days off they can prepare for the Bucs.  This also gives Wentz more time to recover and with each win, they can let him get healthier and healthier.  The receiving corps is going to need to work on some things and hold onto the damn ball.  With the Bucs and the Colts coming up the Eagles can continue to get the kinks out.   The Game against the Vikings they will need to be ready since we destroyed them in the Conference Championship game, I am sure they are still pissed about that one.

COme back next week when we break down the Eagles vs. Bucs game.
