It’s been a couple of weeks since we dropped a DOW. Every now and then I have to work in a cleanse to make sure I can keep going during the summer months. Plus we went on vacation to OBX. There will be a write up coming soon from that adventure. This post is from last week when we tried Frankenmuth Brewing Company out of Michigan. Born in 1862 Frankenmuth has been making beer for damn near ever. It didn’t start with the Frankenmuth name but settled on the Frankenmuth name in the 80’s. We try out two of their brews last week, “Lighten Up Francis,” and “Old Detroit.”
THE BEER: Lighten Up Francis
ABV: 4.0%
IBU: 14
STYLE: American Style Kolsch Ale
WAS IT GOOD: Easy drinking and just in time for the temps to start rising. I was able to kick back on my deck and enjoy the day with both the Kolsh and the Amber Ale. From sip number one I knew this guy was a winner. I easily threw down three of these guys. A good Kolsch and very enjoyable.
GARAGE FRIDGE ADDITION: You’re Damn Right
THE BEER: Old Detroit Amber
ABV: 5.6%
IBU: 23
STYLE: Amber Ale
WAS IT GOOD: Not as good as the Kolsch but good in its own rights. This is more of an everyday brew I think. with on 5.6 ABV and 23 IBU’s it was a nice brew. You can tell these guys have been making beer for some time
GARAGE FRIDGE ADDITION: Not before the Kolsch but I would leave some room for it.
