DOW (Drinks of the Week)

In the two weeks that I was in Dewey I tried to never go to the same place twice, well except for The Starboard.  You yall know how I feel about that place.  There are enough places to go in Dewey that you don’t have to eat and drink at the same place twice, and if you go up the highway a bit there are even more great joints.  The Delaware Beach community of Dewey, Lewes, and Rehoboth are all great towns with Dewey being the most active as far as night life goes.  It seems like everyone has their own signature drink or a beer made for them.

The one six-pack that I picked up was Groove City from RAR Brewing.  This was a delicious Hefeweizen.  This was a random six-pack that I grabbed.  I like Hefeweizens and this one did not disappoint.  The german style beer went down smoothly and was awesome.  Grab a sixer if you can find one and enjoy.

The Crooked Hammock is one of the coolest beach restaurant/brewers you can go to.  Great food, outdoor seating, and plenty of activities to keep the kids busy while you enjoy some great beers.  This may be my second favorite place to go to at the beach.  I IMG_2932think that the only downfall is that the place is too good.  It gets crowded so the waits can be long.  They may need to get bigger but I am sure that wont help them.  It’s part of being awesome everyone wants to be there.  The Two beers that I tried were the Shoobie, and Actively Fishing.  Check them out here BEERS.

A much smaller place but a Dewey Staple is Woody’s Bar and Grill.  They have their own Woody’s Pale Ale that isn’t bad either.  The main reason you want to go there is because of the amazing crab cakes that they have.  Once you get that start drinking those pale ale’s.  This place is tight so get there early and grab a seat at the bar.

My body has been detoxing most of today so that’s why this is late coming out.  The night before we left we decided it would be a great idea to have drinks.  This actually turned out well, I ended up drinking rum straight from the bottle and Absolute Vodka.  This worked great because the people who showed up I had never met before and I was on my comedic A game.  Jerry you have an epic fucking beard bro.

Oh yeah I left out Sunday Day Drinking at the Starboard because I only remember pieces of it.  Here are some of the things I remember.

  1.  I took a Selfie with a crackhead
  2. Elvis was there
  3. I lost about 6 hours
  4. The bloody’s were awesome
  5. The Selfie King got on the Sign
  6. During the Blackout I went and Got pizza from Mama Celeste’s.

Relax It’s Sunday

Week 1 of the family vacation has come to an end.  This week was loaded with surprises.  We met some amazing people and have had nothing but fun.  According to the wife we are in our happy place and I couldn’t agree more.  From day one we have enjoyed every minute of it and the pace has been nice and slow.  I already feel like I have been here for a month and I can’t wait to do this again next year.

We got down here last Saturday with a crappy down pour and a ton of traffic.  Not the start we were looking for.  We did however get to the house around three unpacked and got settled in.  The cottage is small but feels like the perfect size.  We found it on Home Away last year ( Thanks Paula for opening your home to people).  The best part is that it is less than two houses off the beach, and just two houses down from where I proposed to the wife in nearly 12 years ago.

Sunday the wifes grandparents came down.  They rented places in Dewey for more than IMG_2919.JPG30 years.  A few years ago it got to be a bit to much for their advancing age and ended the tradition.  My wife was hell bent on starting that back up and this is the first year we were able to do it.  So we invited them down for a few days so they could enjoy it with us.  It was perfect and we all had the time of our lives.

The Neighbors have a 6 year old that has been playing wonderfully with the kids and almost eliminated any boredom for the children.  This is huge because as you all know kids can get bored at the greatest places ever.  We hate to see them go on Sunday.

Most days have been spent on the beach but there were two nights where we changed up things a bit.  On Thursday night we took a Sunset cruise on a friends boat to Paradise Grill in Long Neck.  We took the boat from Dewey over to Paradise docked up and had a great night.  We came back home around midnight with the kids fast asleep on the boat.  They have been worn out every night this week.

Friday night we went out on to the beach around 830 pm and had ourselves a bonfire.  If you have never experienced a fire on the beach at night there is nothing like it.  The neighbors came down with their kid and their friends kids  and we all had s’mores and just relaxed.  They left a little early so it was just the family sitting there and enjoying the night.  This was probably one of the most relaxing things I have ever done.  We just sat and talked about the week we already had and then we just watched the girls play.  I don’t even think they know the memories they are making.  The wife and I remind each other all the time on how precious these moments are.

Getting the permit for the fire was easy two just go down to the Dewey Beach Town Hall fill out a piece of paper and put down the deposit of $150 bucks.  If you don’t leave a mess than you will get a $100 back.

I love Dewey and can’t wait to see what happens during week two.  I highly suggest anyone just to come expereince it for a weekend.  You won’t be dissapointed.

DOW (Drinks of the Week)

Holy Shit I had a lot of drinks this week.  From Orange crushes, Jameson and Ginger, to St. Bernarbus Wit, and Brother Thelonious.  A battle of the holy beers, with St. Bernarbus Wit easily coming out on top.  That was a damn good beer.  I’ll try to list all of them in some order but there is a good chance I am going to screw this post up.  The biggest reason is that I am drinking now so we will just go with whatever my fat ass hands can type.

I came into this week having picked up two beers that I would try but being on vacation I clearly have had far more than that.  Shock Top and Cage Radler have been my go to beers so far.  Two easy drinking summer beers.  These are the guys I would knock down while relaxing on the screened in porch here at the rental just talking about how relaxing this is and that we will make it an annual tradition.

Brother Thelonious and St. Bernarbus we two very different beers with the St. Bernarbus coming out on top.  This was a sweet beer and I think that it just fit in a bit better for the setting I was in.  I don’t match my beers with my food but with the good times I am having.  Summer brings out more of the sweeter beers like the Wits.  So in good fashion I will be picking this one up again.  I highly suggest it ro all.

Enjoying Dewey is easy all you have to do is show up and a party is going to break out. Each turn you take there is a place that is offering great drinks and great times.  This week there have been five places that I have enjoyed and I think you will all enjoy them as well.

#1.  This is a no brainer and most reading this are going to say no shit but The Starboard  is one of the greatest bars ever created by the beach gods.  I don’t believe this was built by man it is to mythical and to amazing to have been the creation of a mere mortal.

IMG_2918

#2.  Listen if you want to relax, people watch, and enjoy some amazing beers you have to stop into the Dewey Beer Company.  I had three beers from there and bought up some swag, the buzz forced me to do it.  The beers in ranking order from Dewey Beer Company would be #1 Citra Wit #2 Social Kolsch #3 Summer Saison.  All awesome beers.

#3  Que Pasa offers some amazing outdoor seating where kids can go and play and you can eat some awesome wings, or the Mussels with Chorizo.  I enjoyed a wonderful Day Blazer and just chilled.

IMG_2875

#4 Surf Side Bar  is a great pit stop for some good drinks and fun times.  On a walk from Dewey Town Hall I popped in just to grab a Sam’s Summer Ale to take the heat off.  They look small from the outside but the bar is deep and the good times are even deeper.

IMG_2917

#5  Paradise Grill is off the charts fun.  Look this place is huge, has the best atmosphere for the family.  This place is bayside so it will either take a bit of a drive to get there, or my preferred method a night boat trip where you can dock at the place.  They have plenty of beers decent food and some good bands that play.

This week is slowing down and we are preparing to head into week #2 of this vacation.  Sunday you can catch me day drinking at the The Star Board stop in grab a selfie and a beer.

Relax It’s Sunday

Well it was a another great week and we had some good times.  I don’t normally like to rush time but this week we leave for a two-week vaca to Dewey Beach.  If you know me at all you know I love the beach.  The biggest part of this week was that I had the fortune to take a three-day trip to Niantic, Connecticut this week also.  This is a great little bay town with good food and great people.

The week moved slow in the beginning but has quickly picked up speed as we get closer to our family vacation in Dewey Beach, Delaware.  If you have never been there it is one of the best social beach areas on the east coast.  If you love the beach night life this is the place to go.  There are multiple places to go to have a great time such as  The StarboardBottle and CorkDewey Beer Co. , and the Light House  just name a few.  You will find me at almost every one of those over the next two weeks.  Especially the Starboard on Sunday for Bloody Mary’s.  You if happen to find us down there stop for a drink and a story.

My Three day trip to Niantic was awesome.  There are a few establishments in both Niantic and New London that are fun and have good eats and drinks.  I would start off byIMG_2831 trying The Black Sheep Public House for a drink, a conversation, and some good eats.  After you stop there head out and just enjoy walking around town and getting to know people.  When we stopped in at the Black Shdep we got to talking to bartender and found out that she attended the University Delaware.  I have partied in that town a million times.  The planet is really small when you just stop and talk to people.  While we are hanging out down in Dewey the wife and I get to plan our long weekend in Hollywood Florida in August.  I can’t wait.

If you can find me stop and grab a selfie and tell us your story.  We love meeting new people and having a good time.

Life is short stop worrying about tomorrow – Thee Time Traveler.

Relax It’s Sunday

Who had a great week this week, THIS GUY!!!  It is hard for me to complain about any week that I have.  It’s not that I am doing anything crazy I, believe that I really only hold onto the positives and ignore the negatives of things that happen.  The work week was short coming off of the holiday weekend that also was excellent.  Tuesday Night we sat and watch fire works from DP’s backyard.  We cooked out and relaxed and enjoyed the night.  Middletown put on a great fire works display.  The three days of work went quickly and rolled right into another great Saturday.

Saturday brought us another great day on the beach where we hung out with some great people and even got to meet some new ones.  It is great to go to the drive on beach and fish, drink, and cookout.  The kids all get together and dig for sand crabs, catch jelly fish, and just have a blast.  My youngest couldn’t stop singing Moana Songs and playing in the waves.

The group was close to 25 deep not inlcuding the kids.  There was cornhole, fishing, laughs, good times, and everything else that comes with a day on the beach.  I was throwing down some Cage Radler Victory Beers that just made everything better.  The best is that we all agree to do so many things with each other that we know only about 2% of it will happen.  You know we agree to by boats, and beach houses, and party like this all the time.

The best is when it’s time to pack up.  Oh the fight that this has become.  The kids and the wife never want to leave.  Deep down neither do I, problem is that I know I have to drive home.  F me right.  So there I am the bad guy for having to pack up and make us go.  Trust me my inner child crying an ocean of tears.  Once off the beach it was time to hit up WAWA grabs drinks and sandwiches for the long haul home.  I weep the whole way back.  Once home it is tubbies for everyone, one last drink on the deck, and night night time.

Sunday we went to Cantwells Tavern for brunch.  The is a great place within a historic town.  The brunch is awesome there and the Bloody Mary Bar is excellent.  Following that it is off to the community pool for sun and fun.  I would much rather be a the beach though.

I am convinced now that I want to get a place at the beach.  Nothing to extravagant just somewhere that I can lay my head down and the kids will have fun hanging out with other kids.  I hate having to drive back an hour from the beach.  Hour down and an hour back kinda sucks.  I think we will start looking this fall for something in the future.  If anyone has any recommendations let me know.

DOW (Drinks of the Week)

I would like to start by saying that I Fucking love the beach.  Sorry, I just can’t get enough of it.  The best part is when you find that perfect drink that goes with the perfect day.  This week I grabbed two new beers Bilsner from Burley Oak Brewing and Cage Radler from Victory.  One beer not so good the other beer really good.

First up was the beer that didn’t mesh well with the beach.  When I pair beers it’s no soIMG_2806.PNG much with food but the weather and fun I believe I am going to have. Bilsner wasn’t a bad beer but pairing for the beach.  Plus I think Bilsner freak me out the way he stares at you from the can and points at you.  I don’t know if he was judging me or letting me know he was coming for me.  All in all it was an okay beer but not good for the beach.

Victory almost never disappoints when I pick them up.  Cage Radler was a great beach beer with an awesome flavor.  I could have drank thirty of these if given the chance.  Cage Radler had a fruity taste to it that felt wonderful in my mouth.  This only helped with the good times that were being had on the beach.  I will be adding this to the list of great beach beers.

I am always looking for suggestions on beers and other drinks to try.  If you have any suggestions shot them my way.  I will literally put anything in my mouth, wait that came out wrong.  I will try almost anything, shit I mean drinks, fuck I can’t end this the right way.

Relax It’s Sunday

Another Great week down.  I had a good time at work this past week, enjoyed meeting some new people, headed out to the beach, and will be going to a brunch today to round out was has been a good week.  The only downfall of this week is that there are so many things and places I want to be that I get mad when I can’t make them all.  I missed the Ales vs. Lagers at Brick Works in Smyrna DeShoot out for Soldiers in Philadelphia, and couldn’t decide which group to hang out with on the beach.  I know tough right.  We decided to hang out with a new group because we love meeting new people.  The wife had a trip to Detroit that was cancelled due to multiple planes having mechanical issues and it was probably good that she never got on one.

After the wifes Detroit trip got cancelled she was able to attend her work BBQ where IMG_3697they had some awesome food including crabs from BNB Seafood that were delicous.  This week I also had a work BBQ but didn’t get to enjoy the same level off food.  We stayed traditional with just burgers and dogs.  I love getting together with co-workers even though if half of us a faking the enjoyment of each others company.  Stop you know it’s true everyone talks about how good it is to see everyone, then you split into your groups of people you actually like, then you talk shit on each other, then someone says when the hell are we getting out of here, then at the end you hug everyone and talk about how good it was to see them again.  I don’t care I enjoy hanging out and having a good time, plus I actually like everyone there.

We rounded out the week by heading to our safe place, the Beach.  We enjoyed hanging IMG_3714our with a different crowd, meeting some new people, seeing some people that we haven’t seen in a while, and just had a great time.  I drank some awesome beers  and the wife tried to reacreate the drink she had a Chesapeake Inn the last week.  It was good but not the same.  I knew I was settled in for the day once the fishing pole was in the water, kids in the sand, and the music rocking out.  We left the house around 645 in the morning to beat any traffic that might develope along the way.  This was a good strategy becuase we got there around 8 am.  We spent the day talking to as many people as we could, drank some good drinks, and cemented some new friendships.

Today we are heading down to Grain H2O to enjoy some brunch.  I stopped there the other day after to check it out and ran in to two people I didn’t think would be there.  I sat down next to an empty plate when I found the my buddy was there doing some work for the company he owns.  As we sat there and talked about the upcoming weekend I ran into a coworker who has a greater passions for beer than myself.  Chance meetings are always cool.  He was there with a buddy just enjoying a good afternoon sitting on the deck overlooking the marina.  If you get a chance try Cucumber Crush by 10 Barrel.   If you catch us out there stop by and chat for a bit.  We love company.

Have a safe and fun 4th of July Weekend – Enjoy some freedom, fire works, and fun.

DOW (Drinks of the Week)

This week we picked up a couple of 6 packs and headed to the Beach.  There’s nothing like packing up the Jeep and driving onto the drive on beach.  The regular beach is nice but it doesn’t even compare to the fun that you can have on the drive on.  You can bring everything you need out there, like grills, good times, Cornhole, (which is not a weird sexual move), fishing poles, a couch,  and everything else you could fit inside your jeep or truck.  If your not a fan of the ocean and the beach you can stop reading now.  Sorry for that outburst but it’s anti American to not like the beach.  The kids love it down there and could spend every moment hanging out and meeting new frineds.  Each time we go down the wife and I convince ourselves that we are going to get a beach house. Well maybe next time.

When I am on the Beach I enjoy lighter beers that don’t come off so heavy.  This week I went with Brooklyn Summer Ale and Two Roads Ol’Factory  to compliment the hot day.  Both were great picks and went perfect with the hot day and great company.  There was a mixed crowd of about twenty or more people. We got on the beach around 8 am it was cool and windy but the perfect morning to be out there.  We quickly set up the Block Rocker and got settled in for the day.  As  others showed up the grills got pulled out and everything from breakfast to brunch was being cooked up right there on the beach.  What a perfect morning.

I didn’t want to crack a beer to early but F#$% it we were on the beach.  I grabbed the Two Roads and used the bottle opener on my Jeep License plate to open it up.  The beer was a little shook up from the ride down and it money shot all over the back of the Jeep like a bad porno.  Rookie.  Bottle in hand it was down the old hatch with this lightly colored elixir.  DELICIOUS and as the temperature rose they just kept getting better.

Once I polished off the Two Roads it was onto the Brooklyn Summer Ale which is a great beer to take on the beach.  The only down fall is that it doesn’t make you feel like Jenny from the Block.  But it did make me dance a little.   This is a great summer time ale and would be good either on the Beach, back yard BBQ, or a city block party.

If you come across either one of these beers I would encourage you, no wait, you must drink these outside with friends.  These beers are not to be wasted while you sit inside and watch movies about other people having good times.  Grab a sixer of these and go make some memories.

We will be taking our talents to Grain H2O at the Summit Marina for brunch.  If you are feeling up to and catch us there grab a selfie and drink.  Would love you here your story.

DOW (Drinks of the Week)

We started off the weekend with a variety pack from Yards Brewing Company and New Belgium Brewing Company.  These are two great companies that make some really good beers.  These packs were picked up to help kick off a great weekend of hanging out with some great people and remembering why we have this weekend to celebrate.  It’s Memorial Day weekend and we pay tribute to those who defended the freedoms that we get to celebrate this weekend.  I know I will take a moment to pause and thank them in my own way.

I enjoyed these brews in the following Order:

  1.  New Belgium Juicy Watermelon – Great Summer beer that isn’t overly sweet.
  2.  New Belgium Fat Tire – This is a great Amber Ale and drinkable all year around.
  3.  New Belgium Citradelic – Another good summer beer
  4.  Yards Philadelphia Pale Ale
  5.  Yards Brawler
  6.  New Belgium Voodoo Ranger
  7.  Yards Love Stout
  8.  Yards IPA

Friday was a day of cleaning around the house.  This started off with the right intentions but turned into us sitting and drinking on the deck.  The wife stuck to her wine and I drank the beers.  We brought the Block Rocker on the deck, this is an awesome blue tooth speaker, and listened to music and talked.  The weather was nice so it was great to sit outside and just enjoy the day.  The kids played inside and outside all day.  We stayed outside until about 8 or 9 when the temperature dropped to a point that it was more comfortable inside.  I really need to add a fire pit to the back yard.

Saturday we went to a buddy’s house and basically got tanked.  Yeah I time traveled.  I wasIMG_3457 drinking something called Joey Z’s Juice.  I don’t know how many I had but it sent me to the outer limits of time and space.  I woke up Sunday morning thinking I was in my own bed.  Guess what I wasn’t, nope, and the best part is I don’t remember how I got to the bed I was in.   Long story short is that I got drunk enough to fall asleep at a table and someone had the grand idea to take me back home.  That was a great move, the wife would soon follow.

Sunday was a day on the boat.  We headed out to hit the high seas or just the bay.  Event though the weather was a bit over cast we still made a day of it.  Beers, music, and non stop Corn Hole.  The are wax nice and not packed at all.  The area was not packed and everyone just hung out.  We made burgers and dogs on the boat.  The kids had a blast and enjoyed a relaxing day without wi-fi.  These kids all seem to love the beach and playing with virtually anyone.

This week we made some new friends, and met up with some old ones.  If you ever find yourself at Joey Z’s stay the hell away from his juice.  It will surely make you time travel or fall asleep during daylight hours because you can’t handle the good stuff.  As far as the beers go for this week pick up a case or two of both the Yards and New Belgium, you wont be disappointed.

See you in the Future

Relax It’s Sunday

This week ends with us celebrating Memorial Day Weekend.  This is a great weekend for fiends and family to get together and enjoy a day of freedom provided by those men and women who served in our Armed Forces and gave there lives for life and liberty.  Many will argue that this weekend isn’t about bbq’s and the beach, yet as a veteran I will tell you to celebrate this weekend how ever you want, the only thing we ask is that you take a quick moment to remember why this weekend is important.  Remember those who laid the path that we now get to walk.

Memorial day weekend is a great way for America to show how free it truly is.  I love this weekend and I love seeing people get together and anytime that can happen is truly special.  I can’t speak for everyone out there but enjoy it.  Go ahead and drink  some beers, swim, talk about the good old days before fidgit spinners and rompers.  Put the phone down and flip a couple of burgers,  play volleyball or go out on a boat celebrate with a tall glass of freedom.

This weekend we headed down to the beach down to the beach to hang out with some great people.  Saturday gave us a house party at Joey Z’s.  The best was that I ran into an FullSizeRender (2)old friend that I wouldn’t have expected to see.  The notorious Pat Williams, star running back from the University of Delaware.  It was one of those moments when someone walks through the door and your like “HOLY SHIT WHAT ARE DOING HERE.”  That kind of moment.  In the end I ended up time traveling and waking up in a bed that was not mine.  Well at least for a moment I thought I was at home, but I wasn’t.

IMG_2968.JPG

Today we relax by going out on our buddies Boat and enjoying a day on the water.  We started the morning off with Bloody Mary’s and coffee from Wawa.  Brians house is full of family.  To tell you the truth they are all friends but for me everyone is family and the saying that friends are the family you choose couldn’t be more accurate.  The Funky White Boy and family are in the house as well.   My morning has now moved outside on the deck relaxing with my second Bloody Mary and working on this here blog you are reading.  It’s mornings like this that make you appreciate life, family relaxing, and not a care in the world.  Damn it feels good to be an American.
